The Spa city of Bath in Somerset is the jewel in the crown in South West England. The city has an incredibly rich history and much of its heritage can still seen by visitors who explore the popular sight’s and attractions around the city.

This wonderful and unique English city is famed for many things which include a Royal Charter in 1591 which was granted by the then reigning monarch Elisabeth I. In 1987 the city was selected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition for its international cultural significance, as Bath attracts visitors for both cultural tourism and heritage tourism.

If you are planning to visit the city during the month of November, here are just a few things to see and do during the month. On the 17th of November Bath’s Christmas lights will be switched on, so the city welcomes one of its famous residents to perform the ceremony this year; the actor, comedian and ex-Python “John Cleese”. The evening begins at 5pm with live music from Bath’s own X-factor star Lascel Wood, as well as various other live acts and music.

If you are seeking to enjoy the arts, then what better way with an evening at the theatre, as the “Moscow City Ballet” will be performing between the 16th and the 20th of November. The Moscow City Ballet will be giving a performance of two of Tchaikovsky’s classical ballets; Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, which is taking place at the Theatre Royal in the city centre.

Next is a rather unique event, “The Bath International Mummers UnConvention” which takes place between the 17th and 20th of November at various venues in and around the city. The term ‘Mumming’ refers to a form of traditional drama, which dates back to medieval times and earned a high status as a royal entertainment. Some of the performances will take place in the streets, so even if you are walking around the city at this time you might see one of these Mummers events.

This seasonal period would not be complete without a Christmas market. This year’s Bath Christmas Market is situated in the pedestrian square between the historical Roman Baths and the beautiful Bath Abbey. The market starts on the 24th of November and runs through into December, it offers a wide selection of various gifts with over 120 market stalls from traders and local artisans selling their wares.

So if you are thinking of a city break or holiday in one of the UK’s most beautiful and historic cities in the United Kingdom, you will be spoilt for choice when you visit the spa city of Bath.
